Our experienced plastic surgeons are here to provide you with a tailored solution to address gynecomastia, helping you achieve a more sculpted and masculine chest.

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a common condition in men that results in the overdevelopment of breast tissue. This can occur at any age and is often attributed to hormonal imbalances, genetics, certain medications, or other underlying health issues. While it is not a severe medical problem, gynecomastia can impact self-esteem and body image.

Gynecomastia Correction Procedures

1. Liposuction

For cases where excess fat is the primary concern, liposuction may be recommended to remove localized fat deposits and sculpt a more contoured chest.

2. Surgical Excision

In instances where glandular tissue needs removal, a surgical excision may be performed around the nipple to address the underlying cause of gynecomastia.

Who needs Gynecomastia Surgery?

You are the ideal candidate for gynecomastia surgery if you have the following conditions:

  • Enlargement of the breasts during adolescence
  • Sagging breasts after losing weight
  • Breast enlargement for an unknown reason

The Procedure

You will receive general anesthesia first. In some cases when only minor changes are needed we can administer local anaesthesia. The surgeon fills the area with the thumesoid liquid and performs the Vaser ultrasonic liposuction. If necessary the surgeon makes an incision along the lower edge of the nipple and removes the glandular tissue. The loose skin is cut out at the end. The scars can be around the nipple and some rare cases going downwards from the nipple. You will spend one night in the clinic to make sure everything is alright.

Aftercare

Recovery after gynecomastia surgery can vary from person to person, and it depends on the specific techniques used during the procedure. However, here is a general overview of what you might expect during the recovery period: After surgery, your chest will be covered with bandages or a compression garment to minimize swelling and provide support. In some cases, drainage tubes may be placed to remove excess fluids from the surgical site. It’s important to get plenty of rest during the initial days after surgery. You may experience some pain and discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed pain medications. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided during the first week. After two weeks you may gradually resume light activities, but it’s essential to avoid activities that strain the chest muscles. Continue wearing the compression garment as recommended by your surgeon. Most patients can typically return to their normal daily activities after four to six weeks. You may slowly reintroduce exercise, following your surgeon’s guidelines. However, avoid exercises that directly impact the chest muscles. Over time, scars from the incisions will fade. Your surgeon may provide recommendations for scar care. You have to wear a pressure garment for 4-8 weeks.

Results

It’s important to note that while you will see significant improvements early in the recovery process, final results may take several months to become fully apparent. Patience and consistent adherence to postoperative care guidelines are crucial for achieving optimal and lasting results. The majority of swelling should subside within the first few months. The scars from incisions will continue to fade over time. By three to six months post-surgery, you should have a clearer idea of the final results. The chest contours will continue to improve, and any residual swelling should be minimal. Final results are typically evident within six to twelve months after surgery. Scarring will continue to fade, and the chest will have a more natural appearance.

Factors Influencing Results

Individual Healing

Each person’s body heals at its own pace, affecting how quickly you see final results.

Surgical Techniques

The techniques used during surgery, such as liposuction or glandular tissue removal, can influence the recovery and results.

Postoperative Care

Adhering to postoperative care instructions, including wearing compression garments and attending follow-up appointments, can impact results.

Risks

Gynecomastia surgery, like any surgical procedure, comes with potential risks and complications. It’s essential to discuss these with your surgeon before deciding to undergo the surgery. Common risks associated with gynecomastia surgery include:
There is a risk of infection at the incision sites. Following proper postoperative care instructions can help minimize this risk.
Excessive bleeding during or after the surgery is a possible risk. It may require additional treatment, such as drainage or a blood transfusion.
Temporary or permanent changes in nipple or breast sensation may occur due to nerve damage during surgery.
Scarring is inevitable with any surgical procedure. The extent and visibility of scars depend on the surgical technique used. Most surgeons aim to place incisions in inconspicuous locations.
Achieving perfect symmetry can be challenging. There may be some degree of asymmetry in the chest after surgery.
Irregularities in the contour of the chest may occur, especially if there’s uneven fat removal or glandular tissue excision.
Fluid accumulation under the skin (seroma) or blood collection (hematoma) may occur, requiring drainage.
Rarely, allergic reactions to medications, anesthesia, or other substances used during surgery can occur.
Risks associated with anesthesia, such as respiratory or cardiovascular complications, may occur.
There’s a possibility that the results may not meet your expectations. Additional surgery may be required to achieve the desired outcome.
