Welcome to MirAge Clinic,

At MirAge Clinic, we understand the physical and emotional challenges that come with having large breasts. Our breast reduction surgery, technically known as reduction mammaplasty, is a transformative procedure designed to enhance your comfort and confidence. Large breasts can cause significant discomfort, both physically and emotionally, often leading to back pain, shoulder strain, and self-consciousness. Our experienced and skilled plastic surgeons are here to help you reclaim your life and restore your confidence by reducing the size of your breasts.

What is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a specialized procedure that involves the removal of excess fat, breast tissue, and skin from the breasts. This comprehensive approach results in breasts that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also more proportionate to your body, alleviating discomfort and enhancing your overall quality of life.

The Benefits of Breast Reduction Surgery

For individuals with large breasts, reduction mammaplasty offers significant advantages. Beyond the visible transformation, this surgery can alleviate chronic pain, improve posture, and enhance your ability to engage in physical activities comfortably. Moreover, it can boost your self-confidence, allowing you to embrace a more active and fulfilling lifestyle.

What Happens at the Consultation

Your consultation begins with a detailed review of your medical history and overall health. Our surgeon will discuss any existing health conditions, medications, or allergies to ensure a safe surgical experience tailored to your specific health needs.
One of the focal points of the consultation is your vision for the surgery. Our surgeon will take the time to understand your desires regarding the size and appearance of your breasts after the procedure. Open communication about your expectations is vital for achieving results that align with your goals.
Your surgeon will explain the breast reduction surgery in detail, including the techniques involved and potential risks and benefits. This includes discussing likely scarring and the possibility of changes in sensation. You will receive comprehensive information to make an informed decision about the surgery.
Your surgeon will conduct a careful examination of your breasts, evaluating their size, shape, and skin quality. Precise measurements and assessments guide the surgical plan, ensuring customized results tailored to your body’s unique characteristics.
As part of your medical record, photographs of your breasts will be taken. These images serve as a reference point, aiding in the surgical planning process and allowing for a thorough evaluation of your progress during postoperative appointments.
Planning your breast reduction surgery may involve additional steps, such as a mammogram to ensure breast health. We will provide clear instructions, which may include refraining from smoking for at least six weeks before and after surgery. Avoiding aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements is crucial to control bleeding during the procedure, ensuring your safety.
Our surgeon will explain the type of anesthesia used during the surgery and address any concerns you might have. Ensuring your comfort and safety during the procedure is a top priority.
Typically, breast reduction surgery allows for next-day discharge. It’s essential to arrange for someone to drive you home from the hospital, ensuring your safety and comfort during the initial recovery period.

The Procedure

The surgery is performed under anesthesia. Our surgeon usually makes an incision around the nipple and areola and down each breast. After removing excess skin and fat, a portion of the breast gland tissue is excised, and the remaining breast tissue is reshaped into a semi-spherical form, uniting it with absorbable sutures. In cases of asymmetry, reduction of breast tissue is performed on one side, and breast lift on the other. Excess skin is then excised, and the nipple and areola are relocated to a higher position, corresponding to the new shape. Reduction of the areola can also be performed if necessary. The incisions are closed with continuous sutures beneath the skin tissue and on the skin, which are not visible externally and are removed completely later. At the end of the procedure, external surgical adhesive is used to secure the breasts, preventing them from pulling or stretching the sutures due to their weight. This ensures the ideal conditions for wound healing and optimal scar formation. Because of the general anaesthesia an overnight stay at the clinic is required.

After the Surgery

Immediately after surgery, your breasts will be covered with bandages and placed in a surgical bra. This provides essential support and minimizes movement, aiding in the healing process. In some cases, small tubes might be placed under each arm to drain any excess blood or fluid. These tubes are a crucial part of the healing process and will be removed by our medical team when appropriate. You will receive prescribed medication to manage pain and reduce the risk of infection. It’s essential to take these medications as directed to stay comfortable and support your body’s healing process. Expect your breasts to feel tender and appear swollen and bruised during the initial days to the first week. This is entirely normal and part of the healing process. You will wear a specially designed surgical bra that closes in the front. This bra provides vital support to your healing breasts, reducing swelling and promoting proper healing. Limit physical activities for the next 4 to 6 weeks to allow your breasts ample time to heal. Avoid heavy lifting, strenuous exercises, and activities that strain the chest area. Wear the approved surgical bra at all times, even while sleeping. Proper support is crucial in ensuring your breasts heal correctly and swelling is minimized. While initial scarring is normal, these scars will fade over time. Your body’s natural healing processes will help diminish the visibility of scars.

Consideration of the Procedure

Despite the most careful surgical techniques, the best suture materials, and optimal postoperative care, it cannot be guaranteed that the surgical scars will be completely invisible. Different healing results occur due to the varying skin qualities in different areas of the incisions. The fine, thin skin around the areola heals with a finer scar compared to the thicker skin beneath the breast. Therefore, individuals opting for this surgery must decide whether large breasts bother them more than the visible surgical scars after the procedure. The individual’s tendency to scar plays a significant role. If prominent, noticeable surgical scars do not adequately improve even after several months, a minor corrective surgery can be performed. Maintaining the achieved results of breast reduction requires avoiding frequent fluctuations in body weight, smoking, and excessive sun exposure. Wearing a bra periodically is recommended alongside a healthy lifestyle. Always wear a bra during physical activities.

Understanding Breast Reduction Risks:
Your Safety is Our Priority

At MirAge Clinic your safety and well-being are our utmost priorities. Like all major surgical procedures, breast reduction surgery involves certain risks, despite our highly skilled surgeons and advanced medical technologies. It’s crucial for you to be informed about these potential complications as part of your decision-making process. Here are the risks associated with breast reduction surgery:

Common Risks

  • Bleeding: Though uncommon, bleeding can occur during or after the surgery. Our surgical team is experienced in minimizing this risk, but it’s a potential concern in any major procedure.
  • Infection: Infections are a risk in any surgical procedure. We take rigorous precautions to prevent infections, including sterile environments and thorough postoperative care.
  • Anesthesia Reaction: While rare, some individuals might have adverse reactions to anesthesia. Our anesthesiologists are highly trained to administer anesthesia safely, but this risk is inherent in any surgery involving anesthesia.
  • Temporary Bruising: Bruising is a common side effect after breast reduction surgery, but it’s temporary and part of the body’s natural healing process.
  • Scarring: While every effort is made to minimize scarring, it’s an inherent part of any surgical procedure. Scars generally fade over time, becoming less noticeable as your body heals.

Less Common Risks

  • Breastfeeding Challenges: Breast reduction surgery might impact your ability to breastfeed. If breastfeeding is a future concern, it’s essential to discuss this with öur surgeon beforehand.
  • Breast Asymmetry: Differences in the size, shape, or appearance of the left and right breasts might occur. Our surgeons strive for symmetry, but every patient’s body heals differently.
  • Unsatisfactory Results: While rare, there’s a possibility that you might not be entirely satisfied with the results. Clear communication with our surgeon during consultations can help manage expectations and ensure realistic outcomes.

Rare but Serious Risks

  • Nipple and Skin Loss: In very rare cases, there is a risk of losing the nipples and the skin around them. This is a serious complication but occurs exceptionally infrequently.
At MirAge Clinic, our experienced surgeons and dedicated medical staff work diligently to minimize these risks and provide you with the safest, most effective breast reduction experience possible. We encourage open communication and transparency throughout the process, allowing you to make well-informed decisions about your surgery. Your comfort, safety, and satisfaction are paramount to us, and we are here to support you on your transformative journey to a more confident and comfortable you.
